The exhibition "Voices in Ceramics" and this accompanying
catalogue a significant contribution to the continuation of dialogue
between Taiwanese and American ceramic artists. Expanding this point
into a wider perspective, this show is tangible evidence of the fluidity
of international discourse now occurring in the ceramics field.
With the artists represented in "Voices in Ceramics",
various concepts, techniques and influences move back and forth, connecting
east and west, between historical and contemporary and very significantly,
amongst some of the artists themselves.
Each has arrived at their own visual and technical vocabulary. Each
has staked out personal aesthetic territory. Thus the show provides
the viewer with a richness of diversity.
Ultimately, the exhibition is a powerful testament to the eloquent
versatility of the ceramic medium. It also demonstrates the potency
of art itself. "Voices in Ceramics" clearly demonstrates
how art can transcend cultural boundaries and act a conduit for universal
communication. |
